Today I’m sharing a linen Tea House Dress by Sew House Seven.
So, the sun comes out for a little while, and I start to madly sew linen.
If I happen to think it’s likely I might spend a week or two in a sunnier climate on vacation at some point later in the year, I’ll probably use that still hypothetical vacation as an excuse to sew at least 10 linen garments.
This is basically the story of my sewing journey.
I do the same thing every March or April.
I tend to sew more linen than I could ever possibly wear for the Dutch climate. Yet, regardless, each year, the slightest rays of sunshine send me rushing for linen.
What can I say? I know an unbreakable habit when I see one!
I sewed the Tea House Dress by Sew House Seven a few years ago and I found it really beautiful. It is also a very simple and straightforward pattern to sew, which makes it even better!
I also think it partners perfectly with linen!!
You can read about my first version of the Tea House Dress here if you’re interested.
I do have to confess that I have not worn that first Tea House Dress a huge amount since I first sewed it in 2019. I’ve worn it seven times to be exact.
But that’s not because I don’t love it, it’s just that I own sooooo many me-made lightweight linen dresses that I do not have enough sunny days in my life to wear them all as much as they deserve! I think I spend half my sewing life creating the wardrobe I would like to have if I ever move back to Australia one day – not the wardrobe I need in the north of Europe!
My Tea House Dress
So this new Tea House Dress is, umm, well, exactly like my original version.
I used the same size 12 pattern pieces which I had cut out a few years ago. Back then, I found it to be a bit on the big side, but now I find it perfect.
I had this lovely mustard coloured linen, which I purachsed from the Etsy Store Field of Linen and I knew that I wanted to make a simple solid-coloured linen dress with it. I had at least five different dress patterns that I was oscillating between using.
It was after scrolling through my old makes that I realised that, out of the many dress patterns I have sewn, one of the ones I liked best on me is the Tea House Dress. And, hence, I decided to return to this pattern.
After all, sometimes, there’s no need to re-invent the wheel.
If a linen version of the Tea House Dress works well straight out of the packet, sometimes there’s no harm in the old adage of simply making it again in another colour!
Which is exactly what I’ve done.
And I love it just as much – in all its big pocket, cuffed sleeve, pleated back, A-line, lovely wrap tie goodness!
Quick, Simon says “put your hand on you head!”.
Stunning!
I love this pattern too! Have made a linen one and then a lightweight cotton one. The linen is definitely the winner! Your mustard one is just beautiful.
