For me, there is just something about the Amy Jumpsuit by Closet Core Patterns.
I find it irresistible.
I’ve already sewn it a couple of times in its original form.
Seeing these photos side-by-side makes me see that I really do like the Amy Jumpsuit in a geometric print!
You can read about those previous versions here and here.
And, the Amy Jumpsuit has become a huge source of hack inspiration for me. I love the crazy wide legs and have combined it with quite a few other patterns.
I’ve combined the legs of the Amy Jumpsuit with the top half of the Closet Core Blanca Jumpsuit.
I’ve also added the top of the Fibre Mood Carmella jumpsuit.
And I’ve tried to combine it with the Peppermint Jumpsuit.
As well as just squaring off the neckline.
What can I say, I’ve gotten my money’s worth from the Amy Jumpsuit pattern!
So now let’s meet one more member of the Amy Jumpsuit family!
This project actually started with the fabric. I absolutely adore this print from Atelier Brunette. It’s called “LOOM” and is a linen viscose blend which feels very very linen-y.
I initially purchased it in is navy colour way (or “night” in fancy Atelier Brunette lingo) and made a Zadie Jumpsuit out of it. And I love that jumpsuit so much that I simply really desperately wanted to also make something out of the off-white version of the same fabric.
Lucky for me it only comes in two colour ways – so I’ve now exhausted it!
I did go back and forth a bit about what pattern to sew with the white version of this fabric. Almost until the point of cutting out, I was almost sure it was going to be an Elodie Wrap Dress – yet another Closet Core pattern!
But on the day I was actually ready to cut, it was hot and sunny, and the thought of an Amy Jumpsuit flittered across my mind.
And the moment I did, I knew it was the winner! This fabric wanted to be an Amy Jumpsuit.
And what can I see, I’m pretty darn happy with the end result.
I decided to play with the direction of the fabric by using the design both vertically and horizontally. I’m happy with how this turned out. Looks interesting but not over the top.
Don’t tell the other ones but maybe this is my favourite Amy Jumpsuit ever. Don’t worry, I’m pretty sure my garments can’t read, they’ll never know!
Sewing the Amy Jumpsuit
If you are here for practicalities of the sewing experience, I’d suggest you check out one of the above posts. By the time I’m sewing something for the fifth or sixth time, I am generally no longer making any interesting observations or learning much.
I used my previously cut version of the Amy Jumpsuit which has a few custom mods – one inch added to the torso length to account for my long torso, a slight scooping out at the butt, slight lowering of the armyscye. My version is a size 12. I should have basically turned it into a size 14 by adding a cm or so when cutting out my pattern pieces, but I, ummm, forgot, that this is what I had done on my most recent versions.
So this is Amy Jumpsuit could have a tad more room in it, but it remains wearable.
I would also emphasise that I am using pattern pieces from several years ago when I was smaller, so this Amy Jumpsuit has considerably less ease in it than how the pattern is designed. According to my current body measurements, I am closet to a size 16 at the waist and hips, so this look is sized down.
By the way, the Amy Jumpsuit is still currently only available in Closet Core’s 0-20 size range, so it has yet to be updated to the more inclusive extended size range.
I do really hope the Amy Jumpsuit gets to join the extended size team cuz I love it so much that I want more people to be able to feel the Amy Jumpsuit Joy!
Looks so airy and cool. Great use of the fabric!
Thanks!!
Do I spy a side zipper? It looks brilliant Beck, just wondering how to get in and out of it!
Yep. The regular pattern includes an invisible zipper at the side!
