To me the holy grail of sewing (indeed of dressing!) is the jersey dress that doesn’t look like a jersey dress.
Do you want I mean?
Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against jersey dresses. Some of my favourite garments are jersey dresses.
But sometimes I feel that it’s not a field with a whole lot of variation. Either body con or oversized. Whack in some elastic, a tie or a drawstring. It kind of feels to me that there’s not really a whole lot you can do to be different with a jersey dress.
Which is why I love Fibre Mood Agatha. It’s fitted and shapely. It looks like a woven dress.
It makes me feel so good to swish around in. What can I say? I wish to swish…
So what I really love about Fibre Mood Agatha is the way it looks like a woven but it’s got all the wonderful comfort of jersey.
Secret pyjamas!
For me, Fibre Mood Agatha is just the kind of wardrobe item that sparks joy.
I’ve already sewn the Agatha Dress previously, both in jersey and with modifications to work in a woven fabric.
So, since I’ve already dedicated more than 1000 words to this dress, I’m not going to repeat what I’ve said before – check out those posts if you want a more detailed post about the sewing experience.
This version of the Fibre Mood Agatha is a size 14, which was the size I had cut out from a few years ago (from the white version above) and I knew that my previous version still fit me.
I tried to make a little change which didn’t really work out so I’ll cover it here as a word of warning.
I kind of wished that the ‘sleeve’ of my dress (it’s not really a sleeve but a butterfly-like semi-circle upper arm cover) was a bit longer to cover more of my upper arm, so I tried to just draw the apex of the half-circle making up the sleeve a little longer.
Imagine turning a semi-circle into a semi-oval.
It’s not that noticeable but it means that more of the wrong side of the fabric is visible at the sleeve and it didn’t really succeed in making anything longer in any event.
So I would suggest not messing with the sleeve.
Apart from that little self-induced experiment, this latest version of the Agatha Dress is hitting the spot for me.
And, did I mention, it has pockets and she spins!!!!!!
Love it…..and that fabric is gorgeous.
Thanks!!
Love it! The fabric is wonderful and the drape works beautifully. I love the blog and your passion for the art of sewing.
