Today I’ve got a nice and simple repeat make to share with you: yet another Elodie Wrap Dress by Closet Core Patterns.
I’ve already sewn this pattern a couple of times before, so this is going to be a pretty short blog post.
For me, at least!!
If you want more details and “first impressions” in my review of the Elodie Wrap Dress by Closet Core, I would suggest you could check out my first post about it.
This version of the Elodie Wrap Dress is the same as the first one I ever made. It is a size 16 from the 0-20 size range, which suits my smaller bust. This version combines the longer sleeved option (view B) with the midi length skirt. The available sizing for the Elodie Wrap Dress caters for up to a 53 inch (134cm) waist and 63 inch (160cm) hips.
The only change since my first version of the Elodie Wrap Dress is that this time my fabric was sturdy enough to use the patch pockets that come with the pattern. On my previous versions, I added inseam pockets instead. I’m not actually a huge fan of patch pockets in general, but here the wrap means that the pockets end up being kind of assymetrical. I think I would stick to inseam pockets if I had my time over. But it’s a minor detail and doesn’t both me much.
Speaking of details, there’s a lot I really like about the Elodie Wrap Dress.
For a wrap dress, I find it very secure at the bust – it feels appropriate in all situations. I like the shaping at the bodice (formed with pleats). I especially love the sleeves – for me these are basically my perfect roomy sleeve. I also really like the proportions of the skirt, especially at this midi-length. It’s kind of a lot, but somehow not too much. Hah, don’t you love descriptions that basically say nothing at all! Anyway, all of this is to say that it is these little things definitely keep my coming back to this pattern and I’m sure I haven’t seen the last of the Elodie Wrap Dress yet.
(OK, I was trying to sound cool and nonchalant there. The truth is that I have already ordered one of the newest Atelier Brunette viscose prints and I am sooooo excited to sew yet another Elodie Wrap Dress as soon as my fabric arrives!!!!!)
This time around my fabric was a polka dot linen from The Fabric Store. I bought it in person at the Adelaide store when visiting my family in April. The fabric is quite sturdy but still pleasant to wear. If I were to nitpick, the pattern is printed on one side, so the underside is a white-ish colour. This could potentially peak out if you spin too much!
Ahh, brown and white polka dots, forever to be associated with Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. You know a fabric is ubiquitous when you bring it home and your 70 year old father, who knows nothing about fashion, sewing or fabric, declares “that’s Julia Roberts’ fabric!”.
Well yes it is and I am happy to play homage to an iconic outfit with a bit of pretty polka dot dress action.
I don’t have much else to say except that this is fun and eminently wearable! Hitting all my spring dress fantasies!!
So lovely! And perfect on you.
Lovely! I think I have to buy this pattern too…
I highly recommend it!!!
I always love polka dots and this color is perfect! Beautiful styling.
Lol! Go Dad with a pop culture reference!!! Looks lovely and swishy to wear😁
It’s a gorgeous dress and it looks great on you. So glad I read this before I cut out my first Elodie in a super flimsy viscose, very helpful to know about the pocket situation. Now going to plunder your other Elodie posts for tips. THANK YOU!
We are in the midst of winter here in Australia but after seeing your version I think this is the dress for our day at the Spring races in Melbourne. You look fabulous!
